HOW TO AVOID CONSTIPATION

1. Chew your food thoroughly.

2. Increase your liquid intake. Drink lots of water and fruit juices especially after every meal.

3. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables aid digestion naturally.

4. At bedtime, eat about four or five tablespoons of scraped carrots, peanut brittle or a small bag of freshly popped corn. Dried seeds and nuts, like peanuts and raisins are also good laxative choices.

New park will help wildlife avoid traffic

park A BIG park will be created today at Cranebrook, near Penrith, after the federal and state governments joined forces to buy back 181 hectares of scrub and bushland formerly owned by Air Services Australia.

The park, which was sold by the previous federal government to a housing developer in 2004, will be a public recreation area and a habitat for sugar gliders, eastern grey kangaroos, ring-tailed possums and echidnas.

“This land is an essential part of the green corridor that stretches from the former [defence] site through to the base of the Blue Mountains,” said the federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett.

It is part of a bigger plan to join bushland parks to wildlife corridors so that animals can migrate through the city without having to negotiate urban areas. The corridor is not yet complete but the Cranebrook purchase, which cost $17.5 million, adds a link to the chain.

The state Environment Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, said the new park would contain about about 10 per cent of remaining Castlereagh Swamp woodland.

The director of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW, Cate Faehrmann, said it was a great first step to connect parks in western Sydney.
